Lingerie trends are shifting as according to retail sales bigger knickers are now more popular than the once must-have item, the thong.
Sales of thongs have dipped to the lowest level in five years as women opt for boy shorts and bigger knickers, supposedly more flattering to the female figure, the Daily Mail reports.
Elle Macpherson, the supermodel beauty who has her own lingerie range told the news source: "G-strings are uncomfortable. Girls want real knickers now."
First appearing on the catwalk in the 1990s, thongs became a popular lingerie item in the naughties but have since become associated with chavs and Wags.
At their height of popularity in 2003, g-strings accounted for a third of all lingerie sold in the UK, with the Beckhams once famously noting that they enjoy wearing them around the house.
Lingerie is a popular purchase in the run-up to Valentine's Day, with the latest figures from online payment provider PayPal suggesting that Brits will spend an average of £71.25 each on a loved one's present.
